Privacy Policy

Last updated: 9 August 2026

Keep/Lose is built around a simple promise: you get an honest, anonymous second opinion on an outfit, and the photo you posted leaves our servers within 24 hours. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.

1 Who this policy covers

This policy applies to the Keep/Lose mobile app and the website at keep-lose.shopping (together, the “Service”). The data controller responsible for your personal information is [Legal entity name], contactable at support@keep-lose.shopping. If you don’t agree with this policy, please don’t use the Service.

2 Information we collect

We collect only what the Service needs to work:

  • Your email address — used to create your account and to send you a one-time login code (OTP). We do not use passwords.
  • Your display name — shown only to you, on your own profile. It is never attached to the outfits you post or the votes you cast.
  • Photos you post — the outfit images you upload for a verdict, including any blur/pixelation you apply before posting.
  • Post details — the category, price, currency, and description you add to an item.
  • Votes and reports — the Keep/Lose votes you cast on other people’s items and any content you report to moderators.
  • Points activity — an append-only ledger of points you earn from participating.
  • Device information — a device identifier used to keep your session and deliver notifications, plus basic technical data (IP address, app version, timestamps) our servers log to keep the Service secure and prevent abuse.

We do not collect precise location, contacts, advertising identifiers, or payment details.

3 How we use it

  • To create and secure your account and log you in with an email code.
  • To run the core Service: show your outfit to a crowd of anonymous voters, tally a Keep or Lose verdict, and award points.
  • To arrange the voting queue fairly (for example, prioritising items with fewer votes).
  • To keep Keep/Lose safe — detect abuse, act on reports, and enforce our rules through moderation (removing content, shadow-limiting, or blocking accounts).
  • To communicate with you about the Service, such as login codes and important notices.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

4 Legal bases (EEA / UK)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on these legal bases:

  • Performance of a contract — to provide the Service you asked for (accounts, posting, voting, verdicts).
  • Legitimate interests — to keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and improve how it works, balanced against your rights.
  • Consent — where required, for example before sending non-essential messages. You can withdraw consent at any time.

5 The 24-hour photo promise

Posted photos are deleted from our servers within 24 hours. When your item’s voting window closes, the image is permanently removed from our storage. Only the copy kept on your own device remains — we no longer hold it.

This is a core design choice, not a setting you have to find. If you delete an item yourself before the window ends, its photo and votes are removed immediately. Please keep your own copy of any photo you want to hold on to, because we cannot recover it once deleted.

6 Anonymity

Keep/Lose is anonymous by design, and this is enforced on our servers — not merely hidden in the app:

  • Voters never learn who posted an item.
  • Posters never learn who voted, or how any individual voted — only the aggregate result.
  • Your display name and email are never shown alongside your posts or votes.

7 Sharing & sub-processors

We don’t sell or rent personal data. We share it only with service providers that help us run Keep/Lose, under agreements that limit them to that purpose:

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) — cloud hosting, storage, and database (region: US East).
  • Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) — delivery of your login-code emails.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users, or as part of a business transfer — in which case we’ll notify you.

8 How long we keep data

  • Posted photos: deleted within 24 hours of posting (immediately if you delete the item).
  • Login codes: short-lived and expire shortly after they’re sent.
  • Account data (email, display name, points ledger, votes): kept while your account is active, then deleted or anonymised when you close your account.
  • Security logs: kept for a limited period for abuse prevention, then removed.

9 Your rights & choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can exercise these rights — including deleting your account — by emailing support@keep-lose.shopping. We’ll respond within the time required by applicable law. You also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.

10 Security

We protect your data with encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), database-level access controls that enforce anonymity and least privilege, and email-code login instead of reusable passwords. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep the Service safe and to limit what we hold in the first place.

11 International transfers

Our infrastructure is hosted in the United States (AWS US East). If you use the Service from outside the US, your information will be processed in the US. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses for these transfers.

12 Children

Keep/Lose is not intended for anyone under [16] years old, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

13 Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Service evolves. When we make material changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
